Re: Crappie Lights.... tried it but no luck?

We havent slaughtered them lately but the last three weekends we caught a good mess of crappie and whites, the secret to me is in the chumming, the first weekend I didnt tell brother about it he was fishing 25' away in his boat and not catching anything we caught 27 keepers20 or so were crappie good sized we were chumming wit soured chicken scratch both of us had green submerged lights and floating white lights, after a few hrs I had a solid river of baitfish swimming under my boat and he had a few ghost minnows., the next weekend it was different we caught 7 crappie and a slew of whites and a couple of cats. last weekend we caught 7 crappie and 17 whites and 5 nice channle cats in the 5 lb. range, this was in three different spots. watch your fish finder find the bait pods and crappie feeding in them and anchor and start chumming.
This was not what I would call good fishing but probably average for the summer time here.
The week of the full moon the bite shut off at moonrise and started catching whites at sunup.
The three week ago trip we ran out of minnows at midnight, I think we would have tore them up with more bait,
Jig fishing is not working for us right now, and from the reports im getting its not working for anyone else either.

Crappie lights do work for their intended purpose (attracting baitfish). it is a good idea to use them in conjunction with known structure or using a fish finder, locate a rising hump in the bottom at least 1/3 the area depth. Put out lights and enjoy the night!

One of my buddies has started Jigging with 2 jigs on the top jig is a regular 1/8 oz jig m then about a foot down the line he is tying on a micro jig, one more suited for fly fishing.(1/64oz I think) yesterday he reported he caught 80 crappie at 12' in the brush and all but a few were caught on the micro jig. and this was in about 3 hrs, He was fishing in the early morning, from 6:30 till 11;00 am. This is slightly off topic, but I thought I would report it for anyone intrested.
