1994 40 Force. Can anyone tell me what the upper crankshaft seal/bearing cage gasket is made of> paper or metal. Was siliconed and leaking when I took it off. Haven't been able to find new one. Will make one if paper is the OEM gasket material.
Thank you

Re: Crankshaft bearing cage

Most old Chryslers used an O ring, while some did use a thin paper gasket. I have always used silicone RTV on the O ring style as a safety measure. I have never seen a metal gasket --BUT-- I did use one coated with silicone RTV to shim up a bearing cage that was too tight (long story)

So, I believe the option would be yours: Use a good coating of black or blue RTV with no gasket, or a thin (1/32 or less) paper gasket, but again, coated with gasket cement or RTV.

Re: Crankshaft bearing cage

Thank you very much. It appeared someone had used RTV but will was not placed evenly. I am going to try and find some thin paper and coat both sides. Thanks again.
