Oops. Long story short, dropped the UU coming out of the PC oven and bent the receiver where the spanner nut goes on. Back in the oven then tried to roll it out. Cracked off the whole bent part like it was a plastic bin. How bad is this? Any solutions to fixing it? Or am I doomed to spend $300 on a new casing after spending a week rebuilding and powdercoating this one? I did get it torqued in there properly.

The front of the drive shaft housing has to compress and seal the large “O” ring in the bell housing. If you could put the broken piece back in place with some sealer or weld it, it might work. Otherwise you will need another drive shaft housing.

Dent was pretty clean folded. Only about 1/2" back from the front of the housing. From there back, the whole housing is still round (checked with a bore dial) and not cracked anywhere. Should that be ok?

you could pull it apart, weld it up, re-machine, pressure test, re-set up the upper

or just buy a new upper for less money and time

All the uppers I've found this afternoon are either well over $300 or corroded to dust. This really sucks.

I'll have to dig some more tomorrow when I am less frustrated.. acid dipped this one, brushed out the insides, cleaned it really well, degreased and powder coated, then oops. It looked really good when I pulled it out so it's a bit of a let down.

Alldodge, that is a great looking upper for the money, but isn't that a Gen2?
