Couple questions about my Tracker PT175

Hi All,

I'm having trouble getting on plane, the boat only has a 25hp on it so I know that doesn't help but I had been able to in the past. About 3 years ago I was away for a week and a freak storm came thru and almost sunk the boat when I had it docked at a lake in NJ, could I have water trapped in the foam? Would it stay there for 3+ years?? The boat has had a "heavy" feel to it since then. I never really thought about it until I read a post on here the other day. How do you fix if that's the case?

Also, the placard says it's rated for up to 75hp - what would happen if I were to put a 90hp on it? I have a guy looking to possibly barter one.

Thanks for any help.

You may have water logged foam or water trapped below the deck from how you described the boat feeling heavy. If the decal say max recommended is 75 hp you should really heed that warning. Physically a 90hp may not do damage to the transom but if you get stopped for a safety check your day of fun on the water could come to an end for over-powering your vessel. You need to check your state laws be certain.

So to get to the foam, basically I need to remove the plywood deck and cut it out? Are there any tips you can provide for a smooth project?
I was planning on recarpeting this year so maybe I should plan on ripping the darn thing apart. It's only a 2001 so I really want to get it running good again.
Heading to Canada for opening week of bass in late June, guess I should start soon!

Take a look in the restoration folder. There is more info than you could ever need on what you want to do. IMHO, you have water logged foam or plywood. Probably rot too. The boat is also underpowered.
