Hi Guys and Gals! Love the forum. Have been lurking for the past few weeks. My father and I just picked up a very nice 1997 Glastron GS205 with the 5.7 GS engine and Volvo SX outdrive. This will be our first I/O boat. We are very familiar with Merc. outboards and the best way to use the muffs when on the trailer.

I just wanted to make sure we are doing the right thing when we start the boat on the trailer. Is the correct procedure to start the water first, then fire off the motor? Afterwards shutting off the engine then the water? I just want to make sure we get the correct order of water on/engine on,, water off/engine off, so that we don't damage anything. I know with my older Jet Ski's we always turned the water on AFTER the engine was started and turned the water off BEFORE the engine was turned off. Just need to make sure I get things in the right order. Thanks in advance!!!

Turn the water on, start the motor, check for water out the back of the boat around the prop and/or the transom shield.
Shut engine off, turn off water.

hmmm... aren't you supposed to shut the water off... blip the throttle real quick once or twice,(to blow out the waterbox) then shut off the motor?

no no... you guys misunderstood me. i was talking about the jet ski.... no raw water pump in that.
waterbox is the muffler on jetski's. they sit pretty much 1/2 full of water all the time. killing the hose before killing the motor will help blow some of it out.

Just incase you hadn't noticed, you are in the IO forum and cbr rob was asking about a Volvo outdrive and engine.
Why would you even bring up a jet ski???? That has nothing to do with anything here.
