just got this boat, and the person i bought it from said he had swapped the carb from a 305 in another boat. they were both holley 4175 carbs. the carb number i have is 80552. I have ordered the correct rebuild kit for this carb. my question is if this carb is going to perform well on this engine. I don’t know what the original carb number was, so i can’t compare jet sizes. would anyone know what the original carb would have been? or should I just run it and see how it responds?

run it and see how it responds. every carb has to be tuned for every motor its on. the tune will change with the prop, weight of the boat, etc.

The Holley 80552 is a Holley Aftermarket Marine Carb for replacing a Q-Jet. It came from Holley with what Holley called a Universal Marine Calibration.
I have this same Carb. I had put it on my VP 5.7 back in 2007 for a few weeks. It ran fine with no issues, though I thought the Secondaries were a bit on the rich side.
I eventually put back the original Holley 2bbl back on, losing the 7mph I had gained with the 80552
