convert short shaft 20 hp 4 stroke to long

i need a conversion kit to change a short shaft to a long shaft on a yamaha 20 hp, 2013 model. would appreciate any information.

you need the longer mid section & water tube, shift rod, and main shaft, everything else should be the same and just bolt on with the exception of taking the lower unit apart to replace/swap out the main shaft.

to be honest the best way to go (and cheaper) is to buy a long shaft 20 hp with a blown power head (with or without the lower unit) and bolt your power head onto it. the hardest part of the conversion is making it affordable because buying a brand new midsection (if they sell them) isn't going to be cheap.

why not see what they will give you to trade in it on a new long shaft model rather then get into such a project with a relatively new motor?

Once again we don't know exactly what Yamaha F20 it is that you have. Nonetheless, one dealer is offering online an F20LMHA at a price of $2700.00.

There is no "conversion" kit.

To convert your motor from a short shaft to a long shaft you will need a new muffler, upper casing, lower unit, shift rod, swivel bracket, steering bracket assembly, and miscellaneous gaskets and other parts. The parts alone are priced at well over a thousand bucks. The motor would have to be completely disassembled and rebuilt into the long shaft version. Very costly.

As noted, financially you will be better off selling what you have and then buying a long shaft model.

ok, I thought the swivel bracket, steering bracket assembly were the same size for both shaft lengths.

I guess anyone doing a conversion would need to find the complete midsection including the mounting bracket to make it work.

I have only done two in my life and both had complete midsection donor parts so it was just needing power head and lower units swapped out with new shafts

On some motors they are. On the F20, apparently not. According to the Yamaha parts book anyway.
