I have gotten 10 pop up ads at the bottom of my screen today, is that someting new or a malfunction?

If it is new I vote that it is pretty annoying, the intial one when you first log on is fine but on every other thread it gets alittle old, or is it just me and my poor old computer?

Almost every time I change the page I'm viewing. It's really gotten out of hand, IMO.

I agree. I am fairly new to this site, but I'm on a number of other such site and I don't have to put up with this constant bombardment of adds. I( hope all have a great weekend. Please remember those who gave all.

Upper right corner, above body of ad. I find it interesting that the businesses that use the pop-ups believe they work (and maybe they do) but I make a point of never going to their site, nor use their product. I will however use the products that are displayed on the side or at the top, where they don't irritate me.

I understand what the businesses are trying to do but feel they are being sold as bill of good by the Ad reps. Being a small business owner I can appreciate the need for advertising, but the Reps get paid by "copy amount", don't give a hoot if it works or not. "Mud hitting the fan" concept at it's worst.

I'm not seeing any of those bottom-of-page popups beside the initial one that you always get. Once I X that out, theres no more for that session.

I guess I'll consider myself lucky for now.

I also find the pop up adds annoying. And as mentioned above, I do look at adds on the side, sometimes. But I will never, ever click on a pop up. And if I can't close the add, I close the page I'm reading.

Same here... ads, what ads? Its amazing how much better sites look with adblock, its almost like they were designed to not have ads, and they were tossed on later.

I agree. And I am also considering whether I want to continue on this site. I enjoy the posts and the responses, and shopping at iboats store, but feel that we are being taken advantage of by the pop ups. There is advertising everywhere, it's getting totally out of had to the point of qualifying as "eye pollution" and the only response I can make is to stop being a victim, willing or not.

Re: Constant ads

Well I hate the ads too but this stuff ain't free and somebody has to pay the bills. Clicking an X is a very small price to pay for all the valuable information I have acquired here and I guarantee I have saved a ton of money with that information. I will roll with what ever decision is made.

X 2! People can switch to another site but as soon as that site shows enough traffic to be profitable for advertisers they'll have it too. Just like Facebook. They had a lot of time and money invested and had to make money from it at some point in time. You have to pay to play and here our only payment is looking at some advertisements.

Just the 1st ad. I too am one that never follows a popup ad. Did once and had to reformat my computer because if it. Too if I can't close it I close the page quickly.

Re: Constant ads

My solution was to go to Tools > Internet Options > Security > Restricted Sites > Sites and add http://forums.iboats.com as a restricted site. That will block those ads. Please inform the moderators and admins you are doing this. The result will be problems for ALL the iboats advertisers. This might trigger a decision to dump the pop ups. Unfortuately, you will have to reverse this setting to post.

Hopefully, the poop ups will disappear as soon as the admins realize everything is automatically going out the bilge pump.

Re: Constant ads

We certainly understand and empathize with everyone on the inconvenience the ads cause. Unfortunately, the ads are necessary as they pay for a large portion of the operating costs of the Forums. We wish our Forums could be ad free, but that simply isn't feasible if we want to continue operating the Forums. Now, if we can get Bill Gates or Warren Buffett to sponsor the Forums, we could definitely be ad free! :)
