confused on year

ok i have an alumacraft with a 2000 tohatsu m40d2 engine.I go to order a waterpump and the guy says the D didnt come out until 2003 that mine is a m40c. The ID on the side of the motor has 2000 m40d2. Do I have a 2000 m40d2 like the engine says or a m40c engine

If you go to Tohatsu's web site you can enter your model and serial number and they will email you back withing a day telling you exactly when it was built.
