Wow, some interesting comments coming out about/from O'Brien ... He had a hard row to hoe at PSU ... He came in at a difficult time (maybe the understatement of the century) and did an amazing job. But he had to know that after 60 years of Paterno and that no football coach has left the university since 1918 to coach another team (and that was because he enlisted in the army and coached near his vase, he came back to PSU as an assistant after his service tenure), that it would be difficult to replace a legend (regardless of how you feel about his involvement with Sandusky). From a local standpoint, there is still a lot of love for Joepa, but O'Brien garnered immense support because he did respect the Paterno tradition, while making the team his own. Most people were very happy with him and there were a lot of BILLieve shirts around campus and the community. Guess it was definitely his time to leave. I wish him well. He certainly will not have the job security that he had at Penn State ....
