Re: cold? where?

Roscoe, I know what your talking about. I have been swimming in Minocqua on Memorial day. It is not anything more than a get in the water and get out. I have also seen it snow 4 inches at the end of September. You are probably right on the weeks of summer. I guess I never really notice how many weeks we have other than the difference between here and Madison.

How far east of Portage? I live about 6 miles east. Calicokid lives around these parts on Lake Wisconsin but that is west.

Yea, Its hard to get a feel for the change of seasons in a particular area until you spend a few years there. I week or weekend a couple times a year just doesn't give the whole picture. That was how I ended up here. Not enough info in my data base. I love it here about 5 months a year. But since I don't do the winter sports anymore, I have little use for all the cold.

You swam, in a lake? on Mem Day? That just may qualify you for Polar Bear Club Membership!

Re: cold? where?

Most people would call me stupid for doing it, but I find it exhilarating and a great way to start the morning. I don't suggest staying in for long. One year I stood in the water for a while talking to someone on shore. It took about 4 hours for my legs to get warm. Usually swim up there From memorial day until As late as the last week in October. The October/September swim has not been missed in 14 years. Water has rarely been colder than 43 F. Although one year the lake had a thin film of ice on it the next morning. There is nothing like swimming when its snowing. Again, it is more like jumping in a few times and getting out right away.

Scoop, you crazy! way too cold 4 me.
1 degree this am in 14479, plow filled the drive
and my wife tried to gun her MPV through, didn't work...
the thaw we had a little while back made my whole
property like an ice rink when it got cold again.
2" of ice....
farmers almanac predicted a tough winter too.
will feed a lot of streams when it melts :)
about 20% of all of the freshwater in the WORLD
flows 20 min from me, so more snow is good for
fishing. I keep telling myself this

The snow keeps missing us. 30 mintues south got 6 inches and we got a dusting a couple days ago. We have maybe 3 inches when I would usually have to snowblow 4 foot drifts across my driveway.

Mellow Yellow, Sorry about the plow and your van. I hope there was no damage. I hit one of the banks after it had melted slightly and refroze on the edge of a parking lot. Stopped on a dime.

I've done the snow swimming. But it was in an 85 degree pool on the patio of a ski lodge in Colorado. All of the women got a chill when the got out of the water. :)

-13 and blowing snow on the drive into work
this morning. We can use the moisture, but I
was hoping for a little warmer weather for the
week end. It makes it more work to keep the ice
holes clear. :)
