Can some one please help me with the proper start procedure. I believe the motor is not chocking at start up. It spins with no attempt to fire. If i prime it with just a touch of gumout it starts right of and runs out great. Restarts good. But has to be primed first start of the day.
Im going to the library since i have no manual. If there is a choke i have yet to find it . Thank you.

I should have mentioned its a 1985 that had the vro . Just aquired the boat from a lady with little history or knowledge on it.

Did you push in the key while trying to start it? That is how the choke is activated.

And raise the fast idle lever on the control box. Pushing the key in does no good unless the primer bulb is squeezed until firm before attempting a cold start.

First fill the fuel line by squeezing the primer bulb, then turn the key to on and push in and hold for 2-3 seconds to activate the electric primer which sprays fuel into the carb throats (like what you're doing with the gumout but with fuel/oil mix), then while holding the key in turn it to start and in a few revolutions it ought to fire up.

It doesn't sound like you're getting that initial fuel into the carb throats that it needs to get moving. Just be careful not to flood it or you'll end up with the same no-start situation but a different cause. I assume you've got the silencer cover off to spray the gumout in there so make sure you do not run it with the cover off. It will cause it to run lean which will kill it over time.

Gentlemen you have been a great help and i greatly appreciate your help. Boat is starting great now. I have always had controllers with a switch on the side or manual choke. I wouldnt have thought of pushing in the key. Thanks about the advice on the front air box. I only had it off when i drained old fuel from the carb bowls. Shes running great and smooth thanks again. Happy fishing.
