Anyone every reupholster pontoon seats with the outdoor fabric? I noticed on a yacht building show, their outdoor seating was not vinyl but cloth. Thoughts ??????
If you look at patio and outdoor furniture, they are made from fabrics and seem to hold up well. So why wouldn't the same type fabric work on a boat? If the boat is to be covered, all the better. But I don't see why it would matter either way with the proper materials. And the do make sprays to help maintain waterproofing abilities as well. JMHO
talk to your local auto/marine upholstery shop. (prices for the materials are usually a wash, so you are only out their actual labor to cut and sew) they have hands-on experience in how these hold up, and how often they need repair.
many of the marine grade UV stable non-vinyl materials are about double the cost per yard of vinyl.
I don't know if there is a difference between vinyl and fabric when it comes time to clean either one. Mold and mildew can occur during winter covered storage. If it gets bad enough vinyl can tolerate bleach. ....not sure about other fabrics..
Sunbrella Type Fabrics (several Brand Names) All have Excellent UV and mold and Mildew resistance. But as stated they can be very Pricey. They will last a long time and tend to be a bit cooler on the skin in High Heat.
