clicking starter assist solenoid

good day,
trying to start my boat was turning over then all of a sudden alli get is a clicking out of the assist solenoid. battery is good and charged, starter is fine....
how can i test this solenoid?

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... With a Jump Wire, from Big terminal, to Big terminal....

Check, 'n Clean the blocks Ground connections, 'n Both battery terminals too... Shiny metal Clean...

well, replaced the starter assist solenoid with a new one, cleaned all the grounds, checked connections....
still clicks when i turn the key.
what could be the issue here?

it is a 3.0l omc cobra

Howdy,


It could still be bad or you have a bad starter.

Get s simple test light and use it to find where the power is (or isn't) going.

Just replacing parts will get you nowhere. (except maybe a little poorer!)

Ayuh,... Did you Clean, ALL the wiring ends,..??

That is because your slave solenoid grounds through the base instead of having the second small terminal for ground.

Ayuh,.... ALL of 'em...

1 big 1 will be 12v All the time...
The other big 1 is only Hot, when the little wire gets 12v from the keyswitch...
