cleaning old canvas

A friend has a vintage convertable with a canvas top. It has some dark places in it and asked me since I mess with boats if I knew of something that might work to clean it. Its white and I told him oxi-clean could help which it did, but it still has some dark streaks. Any ideas? thanks

All of the canvas tops I've ever run across have been painted - for protection. If this is your case then try some Clorox Clean Up. Nothing more than a diluted bleach but it does work good for some stains - especially if they might be mildew. Wet the surface, spray the stuff and let it sit for a minute or so - don't let it dry. Rinse it off. If that didn't do the trick then reaply and scrub with a soft bristle brush.
