cleaning a fuel tank

Just got an older Sea King.. the plastic fuel tank is DIRTY! Any good way to clean it out would be appreciated.

Todays ethanol gas is not to friendly on some older plastics.Save yourself a headache and through the tank out.

Get a hand full of pea gravel & a quart of paint remover. Dump both in the tank & shake it OFTEN for a week. The paint remover softens the crud, & the rocks rattling around act as an abrasive, removing crud along with any rust.

*CAUTION*

Read the directions on paint remover! It might be harmful to plastic and you'll end up with a useless blob.

I'd use carb cleaner.

I read somewhere to use amonia to clean tank.
I haven't tried it yet, but I've got a tank that carb cleaner
hasn't touched.

I use ammonia and a handful of nuts. Let soak and shake it often.Does a good job.(p.s.-don`t mix ammonia and bleach.)
