Re: Classic boat pic gallery (20yr and older)

Here's my 1979 Galaxie of Texas 1700 Granada with a 1975 Johnson 85hp. It's 16 feet long, not sure why the 1700 model number? Bought it about a month ago. Previous owner (the original and only other owner of the boat) couldn't get her running right this year and decided to give up after all of those years (he put over $600 this year in coils, trigger, power-pack, etc.. I spent $60 for an ignition switch). Said his Grandkids weren't interested in anything but their video games when they came to visit. Picked her up for $700 after my wife said I should buy her. You have to understand that my wife was dead-set against a boat. She didn't want her (our) kids in water that they couldn't touch the bottom. After taking her out once, she's hooked. She calls almost every day at work asking if we are going out on the boat today! The kids also love it. I bought a tube and we have been going out almost every day to use it. Only problem is, now my wife is looking at all of the fancy boats thinking we should get one of those.

1984 Sea Ray SRV210CC

It's mostly original, except for the cuddy hatch and cuddy interior. This boat has been from Pittsburgh, PA to Kentucky Lake on its own bottom, a distance of almost 1,000 miles and 17 locks. It was done in two sections from Louisville to Kentucky Lake in September 2008 and from Pittsburgh to Louisville in September 2010. This September, it's going to do the entire navigable part of the Cumberland River and possibly the Tennessee River.

If you do the TN, you have a place to dock. Drop in for some BBQ. :)

I just recently bought my first boat, a 1969 glassmaster with a 1968 Johnson 65 on the back. have some work to do on her still, i just hope i can do Half as good on mine as you all have done on yours. I will get a pic up on this thread as soon as i get One. Thanks for all the inspiration. I LOVE OLD BOATS.

I owned one,the same year and 24'long came off a Lake freighter.Had the air tanks in the bow and stern,we put a surrey top on it and threw the windsurfers up there. Because of the rounded stern the hull speed tops out at about 8-10knots.After that it just makes more noise and digs in a little further in the stern area. The only possible way to get her to go faster would to be to weld some planning plates on the stern just below the waterline.ALICE did rock a lot more than any other boat because of the lack of hard chines.Have fun with it ,wish I still had the ol Gal.

The much older woodies are beautiful, and there is something sweet about the 70's / 80's boats, they have the sharp lines and less 'puffy' & 'rounded off' look that I like, from the Jet speed boats, cuddy's to larger cruisers older is better looking.

I LOVE all the latest gear and technology of the new rig's but the new dynaflow type shapes all look like they came out of the same funky liquid mold machine, everything flows into the next assembly, well they >>>> SUCK !!! I think the 2k boats will be the equivalent of the 70's orange shag carpet . Just my old boat opinion.

I have been looking at the Calkins Bartender alot lately and they have substantial planing plates (looks like they are a foot wide or so and a couple of feet long) attached to the stern to get them to come up out of the water. Hmmmm.

We did the Cumberland from Green Turtle Bay on Lake Barkley to the KY-TN border above Celina, Tennessee September 16-18 -- 395 miles total from put-in to take-out. Tennessee River next year.

See my post about the trip in Boating Activities.
