Re: CL Donor Boats for our Tinnies

it seems you guys are going parts crazy.....I see free and almost free fiberglass boats on trailers with motors all the time....the reason is...the 15year old and older fiberglass boats are a penny a dozen...there are millions around that have dirty broken interiors rotted tires and cracked IO motors......even the ones with running outboards are cheap or free?? why?

because it cost hundreds of dollars to get rid of the hull up here...most dumps wont take them. youd have to cut the thing up and burn it in peices at night.....(because you cant legally burn it) tehn youd have to go buy tires to get it home and deal with the rusted lug nuts...

doesnt quality of life mean anything??

of course the best ones are on nice trailers, with desirable motors...and they make all the trouble of getting rid of the glass body worth it.

now if your yard already is a junk yard then having a few additional parts boats sitting there wont be an issue

bob

Here in MI I can take 1 boat to the dump per month for free, any additional boats are about $40..... not too bad! I take the parts I want and sell the trailer and engine on cl, often coming out a few hundred ahead in my boat fund :)

doesnt quality of life mean anything?? Nice quality of life, BTW, if you're burning a glass hull anywhere close by....

now if your yard already is a junk yard then having a few additional parts boats sitting there wont be an issue.. If I'm not violating the law or covenants, (like, I don't know, burning a glass hull) why do you even care? If you don't want to, I won't rally to try & get you too. Just don't. If you can afford to fulfill your restorations w/out recycling old boats, motors & trailers, great for you. How I chose to fund my project is up to me. If you'd like to try & burn an old hull day or night, I'd love to know where that'll occur, and a time, that'd be great. Thanks

This sounds like a great use of Chieftain's time & effort, keeps some stuff out of the landfill and funds Chieftain's project. How is that not a great idea? If there were more candidates closer to me, I'd be all over them too. They aren't so I'm not.

Again, either way why do you care?

WTH Bob? Maybe you shouldn't read a thread titled 'CL Donor Boats for our Tinny's', if you don't want to do that? Quality of life is defined by the person living it. Not those watching. I'd suggest that those choosing to get & recycle an old boat into their project, are improving their quality of life, or they'd stop doing it....

Re: CL Donor Boats for our Tinnies

it was tounge in cheek.......chill...

but in truth you cant get rid of those hulls up here, in most places in the northeast, like you can in other parts of the country...so people dont buy up boats like you guys are suggesting( not that some of us dont want to!) just to use parts of it later on.

now an aluminum boat will always have value, because the scrap dealer would love to take it, and hed even pay you!!

as far as improving their quality of life, I think we should wait to hear fromt eh rest of that persons family before we make the final judgement!! ha ha ha

or the neighbors.

luckily I got a side lot thats big and hidden, plus my Gf has 60 acres tucked way back 1/2 mile off the road!! i could hide airplanes back there!! as long as things cycle in and OUT...instead of JUST pile up!!!

up here its so bad what the land fills wont take, that the goverment doesnt realize they are forcing the poorer people to just abandon their JUNK along the sides of deserted roads!!! what a shame

Bob,
then please excuse my rant, I apologize. Ton of stuff sideways @ work yesterday and a bunch of all work and no play, makes me cranky
.
And I know there's a big different between collecting junk boats and short term storage of a parts boat.

Cheers have good week
sorry again. Jc

I disagree..The price for scrap glass is quite high...

There is the EPA toxic waste fee
The landfill fee
The Medical Bills when you begin hacking up chunks of lung wall with glass shards infused..

It goes through the roof when you think about it.
