Hi Everyone,
This is my first post I am hoping for some opinions from the experts here. I am looking into purchasing a early 80's Silverline Bow Rider. The boat comes with the trailer and a 1984 90 HP mercury 6 Cylinder on it. The boat needs extensive cleaning, the gauges are not working, and the motor "needs a starter" from what the owner says. I have been fighting with my inner self about whether I should part with the $500 to buy the boat. This would be my first project and I think it is worth it but I wanted some opinions from people who have done restoration projects.

First time attaching pictures hope they worked. Any insight would be great or things to be careful of. Even if the boat is a loss, looking at those motors and trailers online I could recover the cost by selling them if the boat fails. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to iboats Dry Dock Tim

First thing is to see if the motor is locked up....can you turn the flywheel by hand.... Does it feel ilke it has compression...

OK now look at the deck....any soft spots? Cracks? Look all around the transom.....any rot? Dark looking wood behind the glass? Any cracks in the corners? Shake the motor up and down....any flex in the transom....

Hows the hull? Cracks any old repairs? Hows the keel down the center of the boat? Worn? Gouged? Just some things to get you going... Seller have title for boat and trailer if needed in your state...

You could get 500 back from the yrailer and motor in parts......So up to you if you want to dump maybe another 3k into the hull and interior(doing it all yourself) Then you have to get motor running....

Look at my resto below and you'll see what can be hiding under the deck.....

We will be happy to guide you along if you want to rebuild her ;)

Thanks for the feedback Rick, btw great job on your restoration, the boat looks great.
I will be sure to look and the things you had mentioned.

The craigslist ad said that the boat was water worthy with no holes, steering was good, and that the motor was running last year and thats when the starter had went. I will have to take what he said with a grain of salt until I can get my hands on it.
