My 85hp isn't getting enough rpm to plane out in the water. Some times it does reach enough rpm it will plane out . Then the engine will die. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be.
It's most likely carburation. Have you tried to drain the fuel out, clean throughly, and re-assemble? Perhaps you have a fouled plug(s)--I'd pull them out, test the compression in all cylinders and go from there.
You most likely need to post this in the correct section, not the Water Skiing section. Many reasons why. You need to give a history of the motor. Did it ever perform well, did you just get it, what work has been done to it ??? etc etc.
But put this in the correct section.
