Hello,
Will a Vintage Chrysler Outboard 74H09 Tachometer work on a 1974 35hp battery ignition? on the back is a switch from 1,2.3,4 which I would guess would be cylinders.

Hello,
I have this 35hp that I am looking for a tachometer that will work for it. Under the flywheel the stator has 8 poles. It is the battery ignition with alternator model. I think that a Chrysler 74H13 tach would work but naturally are NLA. Are there any other modern tachometers that will work for this outboard? Thanks.

Yes if it has battery ignition system.
White cable for the top ignition coil will also feed the tachometer with pulses.

Aftermarket tachometers often use the signal from the alternator and than you have to have a tachometer that will work with a 8 pole alternator.
Old OEM tachometers for Chrysler use the ignition puls for the coils as signal.

Some of the new digital ones on Temu or Alix just have a sensor wire you wrap around the ht lead
