Re: Chronomania Sport Jet 90
Today I received three new CDM's. I promptly installed them, cranked the engine and......wait for it........wait for it.............NO SPARK!!!!!!!!!!
I called Mercury in Wisconsin (920) 929-5040 prompt three
After a long conversation with the tech, he had a conference with the other techs. The conclusion they came up with is that I had installed the wrong flywheel. This idea came about due to the clue that my trigger voltages were 5, 6 and
17 volts. Apparently all three voltage outputs should be similar and not so widespread.
The flywheel that I had installed is 859241T10 (superceeded the previous number of: 817494A2). It was recommended to purchase flywheel: 859236T14. When I see pictures of this flywheel online, it looks quite different. There are not three threaded holes to install a puller like my old flywheel (and the flywheel I recently installed). There is a threaded flange that protudes above the center hole that would take a special flywheel puller from what I can see.
An illustrated parts drawing of the newly ordered flywheel can be seen at this link (part number 41):

To date this is what I have spent:
Flywheel (the one I just ordered) $407
Stator ...................................$181
Trigger .....................................$61
Voltage Regulator......................$135
Starter .....................................$80
Battery .....................................$80
3 CDM's ...................................$211
Aspirin ........................................$5
Beer ..................................Priceless!
Hopefully I will have it by next Wednesday to install and if all is well my family and I can take the boat out Memorial day weekend. If this does not rectify the problem, then the lightning rod fix is next!
