I am looking at buying a 1988 Chris Craft Seahawk 210. Has anyone heard any negative reports on hull cracking on this model?

Gary H NC, bought one last summer don't remember the year, but he had to put a transom in it. my 1999 Chris Craft 230 Deckboat is getting a transon currently. thought it was a no wood boat.

Buying a boat

1st you need to decide what you want to use it for, fishing, cruising, or water sports.

2nd how many people adults, children you want on board of the average outing.

3rd outboard, inboard-outboard, or inboard power plant.

4th Budget, what you want to pay, and what you are willing to pay, when you find
Exactly what you want.

You can hire a marine surveyor, to inspect the boat, or you can do it yourself.

You are mainly looking for soft spots in the deck, transom, cracks, all signs of a rotten, under frame.

The motor should be clean, no spots where the paint is discolored, or pealing from heat, having run hot. Compression should be atleast 100psi, and within 10% of each other,
Spark on all cylinders, good pee stream, check lower unit for water in oil.

The overall condition of the boat will tell you a lot, as to how it has been maintained.

A 30 year old boat motor combo, may be in better condition, than a 3 year old.

Thanks. This boat looks like Gary NC's Chris Craft, just a later model. I took a quick look at it a couple of months ago when it was on EBay, but I did not bid. I just found it again on another web site, so I guess the EBay sale did not go through.

I'll take another good look and see about getting a survey done. I am tired of getting boats with "surprises".

Yes do check the transom out if you go look at it.
On mine the floor is all fiberglass but the transom and stringers are wood.
No signs of cracking on my hull.I believe they are a pretty well made hull.
Is the one you are looking at an outboard? I have only found one other like mine with the outboard,Most are I/O

Yes. It is an outboard.

I'll bring my hammer to tap the transom. I've done one transom replacement and would rather not have to do it again.

Gary H NC: So how do you like your boat. You've had it about a year or so, right?

Yes,I have had it about a year now.It is by far the best riding boat i have ever owned.Sometimes i wish i had more motor though. It is rated up to 300 HP.
It handles rough water very well.I can not tell much difference with just me or with 5 or 6 people onboard.
What size engine is on the one you are looking at?

It has a 150hp Merc. Don't know the age.

What speeds do you get with yours?
