I have a 2002 2150 bowrider. I have beach rash along the first 3+ feet of the hull under the bow and I have a 2" by 6" random chip in the hull at the transom. Each of these have exposed the fiberglass and while I have been studying fiberglass repair and gel coat repair I have yet to see the recommended fix for a chip through to the fiberglass.

Do I have to reglass these areas then gel coat over top or is it simply re apply new gel coat??

The gel coat appears to be 1/8" thick in some areas and this is what is puzzling me!!

Any suggestions would be awesome!

You might as well get some pictures ready, cause you're going to need them. It's the first thing everyone (including me) is going to ask for.

Beach rash is simple.. but that " 2"x6" random chip " in the hull at the transom seems a bit more..please elaborate..

2x6" is going to be glassed..

Really Pics should help ( as a first time poster you really should look into the sticky on How to and Get the best out of Iboats ..

You got the make year and model..just no pics and some are wondering around here why there are so many First posters that dont even say HI.. Just Fix it for me please..

I have taken some pics of the hull for your viewing

This is my 2002 Bayliner and I am watching tons of fiber glassing videos but if any one has any recommendations I would love to hear them.

I hope the pics turned out ok!

Cheers

Well I see you have that keel guard set up :) ..

For the repair in the back.. It should be ground out and some poly/mat glass applied ..then fair in..spray gel..finish and buff.

I would go into greater detail normally..but at this point there should be incoming opinions on this.

Thank you for the Good pics :) .

Re: Chipped hull!!! Any body with advice?

IMHO the first thing you need to do is check your transom. Do you know how long that damage has been there and how long it has been exposed to water??? There is a good possibility that water could have intruded into the wood of your transom and if so you could have some damage there as well as the stringers and motor mounts. Have you done any "Below Deck" Inspection as to the "Soundness" of the superstructure of the boat?

Re: Chipped hull!!! Any body with advice?

The Chips are not through the glass itself and it shows no signs of water penetration either inside or out.

As for duration I would have to say it has 15 hrs max with this damage as I trailer my boat and regularly inspect the hull.

As I proceed with the fix I assume I will see the wood and its condition and be able to make the necessary repairs from there.

Thanks to all who have responded....you have been a great help.

Safe boating!:D
