charging help

hi guys i am new to this forum so thanks in advance . i have a 98 200 efi it quit charging last time out . ran some test with meter . so went ahead and replaced both regulators and stator pretty easy right . well now it seems to charging but will not stay running when battery disconnected . is there something i missed

That motor and most others with charging systems are not made to be run with batteries disconnected. Disconnecting the battery will damage the new VRs you installed. I also do not know what effect it has on the EFI system.

Why would you intentionally disconnect the batteries?

You missed the part where the battery is a core component of the motor's electrical system.

Fuel pumps and injectors (at a minimum) need battery voltage to function.

For what reason was the battery disconnected?

got ta have a battery hooked up if wanna complete ANY 12 volt pos/neg circuit...........

thanks to guys . should have came here first. watching vids people ( tech,s) saying how this is a dual system one should charge and one should run the boat. hope i did not burn out anything, i was getting 14.3 at solenoid so all was good i guess .

Set a voltmeter to AC voltage, start the engine on a flusher and see if any AC voltage is getting to the battery. If so, the diodes in at least one of the voltage regulators are bad.

Just so you know, neither of the VRs power the ignition. They both serve to charge the battery.
