Best way? Not sure I understand.

1) Buy a control compatible with your engine.
2) replace or swap over the control cables.
3) hook up the neutral interlock switch,
4) put it in.

Did I miss the essence of the question?

I did not phrase it correctly. Am going to take some current pics. Am probably searching for a solution that isn't there. When I send pics. will explain. Thank you for response.

As you can see remote controller is toast. What am trying to figure is can I cut the 3 bolts off and it will release back side or am I going to have to bite the bullet, and take down entire starboard gunwale?20230418_150526.jpg

reach up the front side of the inside gunwale panel and put a tool on the fastener to remove the nuts. or use a nut splitter.

if you dont have access from the front of that panel, you will be removing the panel

Thank you so very much. Am going to remove nuts and see if can get controls thru middle opening. Was not sure it would do any good to remove nuts . Have been playing with boats for over 50 years, first time have run across this kind of controls.

usually the control "guts" will come off inside the panel, as that is where the control cables are. You need to get the lever off and the chrome trim piece to be able to push the control thru the panel and off. Sitck you hand up under the panel and locate the control cables. That should tell you how they will come off, once loosened.

If you are lucky the nuts will just come off and the job will be easy.

Thank you Chris 1956. Someone epoxied the nuts on. Will have to go in from front side of gunwale to see if can break nuts free. If not am considering cutting an access just below were guts are. When read your last post, the light bulb came on.

Looking at the pictures, those are standard Nylock nuts (locknuts with nylon insert) on rusted bolts. Spray with good penetrating oil and let soak. Rinse and repeat. Should be able to grab the bolt head from the back with a box wrench and work those nuts off.

Yes, if the penitraiting oil does not work, have a small air tool can attach cutoff wheel to.
Will send some pics. When get it out.

This turned out to be quite a chore. As promised pictures with remote out of gunwale. Still have to remove the gunwale as there is a bulkhead behind it.20230427_140603.jpg20230427_140522.jpg20230427_145526.jpg

Gunwale removed, decided to go with Universal remote controller CHX 8050 C. The 3300/33C remote cables fit this very well and they are like new. They sell all of these items here on Iboats, very reasonably priced.20230511_084706.jpg

It is also worth mentioning, it has outstanding directions and a very nice template for mounting.
Learned years ago, measure twice cut once. And read directions at least 2x and install once.

Never figured how to hook kill switch up. Tried 2x cut 2 wires & had to splice back together. Can install switch from front behind if can find right wire.

Normally on a stern drive, the kill switch would need to kill 12VDC power to ignition. You would hook the ign wire thru the switch in series. the switch must open to kill ignition.

An outboard kill switch usually grounds ignition. You would hook kill switch to ground and ign killer wire (usually black/yellow). The kill switch must close to kill ignition.

Hopefully your kill switch can do either, as is necessary. See if the switch has multiple poles.

The remote came with 2 kill switches Chris, .one with black wires for outboards, one with purple wires for i/o. They do exactly what you said. My problem seems to be finding right wire.
