...Tin foil hat?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin_foil_hat

A tin foil hat is a piece of headgear made from one or more sheets of aluminium foil or similar material. Alternatively it may be a conventional hat lined with foil. Some people[who?] wear the hats in the belief that they act to shield the brain from such influences as electromagnetic fields, or against mind control and/or mind reading; they also serve to attempt to limit the transmission of voices directly into the brain.

The concept of wearing a tin foil hat for protection from such threats has become a popular stereotype and term of derision; the phrase serves as a byword for paranoia and persecutory delusions, and is associated with conspiracy theorists.

Etc.

Re: Census

... I cant understand the reason for the questions on the census. Why do they require my full legal name? Why do they require my full birthday?

So they have all the correct information to apply your barcode,,, when the time comes...

Boy, the tin foil hats and shotguns are really coming out, aren't they?

I've got a shot gun, but where do you get one of those tin foil hats? :D

Re: Census

The only authority congress has is to count the people. When they ask ANYTHING else it is congress who is violating the constitution. Not the men standing up for our God given rights.
In such manner as they shall direct by law only gives them leeway on how they may collect the information. It does not give them the ability to ask anything they want.
I really like the write in American comment but I like United States Citizen even better because Mexicans and Canadians are also Americans. However I recognize that the term American has traditionally been used to describe citizens of the USA.

Finally, a voice of reason!

Re: Census

The thing that bothers me is the government already has ALL of my info.
I pay my taxes, they know where I live, how much $ I make, how many kids I have, etc.
Now, they spend more of my tax $ to count me again.

You can get instructions to make your own right here. :) http://zapatopi.net/afdb/

You have to make your own. You can't trust some government/corporate drone to make it for you. They'd just leave a hole for the mind control rays to get in.

Re: Census

I just noticed, after reading up on what congress has the right to ask.. Question #1 is surrounded by a dark box. It seems to me they highlighted that question because it is the only one which is REQUIRED to be answered. The rest are all optional and it appears they have succeeded in duping plenty of people into volunteering the info anyway.

A little funny if you think of the people choosing race.. you are willingly putting yourself into a box. "American" or "US Citizen" is an even smaller box. I'm a person who has US citizenship, I'm not a "citizen", just as I'm not a "Chevy" just because I have one.

Re: Census

I find it interesting that so many folks declare in writing on a public forum that they've violated the law.

I wonder if the violations listed below are "per instance" like so many other laws. That is, leave one field blank, it's an infraction, two fields, two infractions, three fields, three infractions, etc. Could add up quickly.

Leave 10 fields blank and it's a $1,000 fine. Deliberately give false info on ten fields and it's $5,000. Heh.

http://people.howstuffworks.com/question345.htm

Fair use applies.
If you refuse to give out the information or you deliberately give inaccurate information, you can be in legal trouble. According to United States Code, Title 13 (Census), Chapter 7 (Offenses and Penalties), SubChapter II, if you're over 18 and refuse to answer all or part of the Census, you can be fined up to $100. If you give false answers, you're subject to a fine of up to $500. If you offer suggestions or information with the "intent to cause inaccurate enumeration of population," you are subject to a fine of up to $1,000, up to a year in prison, or both. Here's the official verbiage:

221. Refusal or neglect to answer questions; false answers

(a) Whoever, being over eighteen years of age, refuses or willfully neglects, when requested by the Secretary, or by any other authorized officer or employee of the Department of Commerce or bureau or agency thereof acting under the instructions of the Secretary or authorized officer, to answer, to the best of his knowledge, any of the questions on any schedule submitted to him in connection with any census or survey provided for by subchapters I, II, IV, and V of chapter 5 of this title, applying to himself or to the family to which he belongs or is related, or to the farm or farms of which he or his family is the occupant, shall be fined not more than $100.

(b) Whoever, when answering questions described in subsection (a) of this section, and under the conditions or circumstances described in such subsection, willfully gives any answer that is false, shall be fined not more than $500.

(c) Notwithstanding any other provision of this title, no person shall be compelled to disclose information relative to his religious beliefs or to membership in a religious body.
Sec. 222. Giving suggestions or information with intent to cause inaccurate enumeration of population

Whoever, either directly or indirectly, offers or renders to any officer or employee of the Department of Commerce or bureau or agency thereof engaged in making an enumeration of population under subchapter II, IV, or V of chapter 5 of this title, any suggestion, advice, information or assistance of any kind, with the intent or purpose of causing an inaccurate enumeration of population to be made, shall be fined not more than $1,000 or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.

Edited to add more, directly from the Census Bureau.

Question
Do I have to respond to the American Community Survey / Puerto Rico Community Survey?

Answer
Yes. Respondents are required to answer all questions on the American Community Survey (ACS) to the best of their ability. Response to this and other Census surveys is required by law (Section 221 of Title 13, Chapter 7, United States Code). This chapter also contains information regarding offenses and possible penalties. According to Section 221, persons who do not respond shall be fined not more than $100. Title 18 U.S.C. Section 3571 and Section 3559, in effect amends Title 13 U.S.C. Section 221 by changing the fine for anyone over 18 years old who refuses or willfully neglects to complete the questionnaire or answer questions posed by census takers from a fine of not more than $100 to not more than $5,000. More information.

Your answers are very important because they represent the answers of many other similar households in your community. The data that you and others provide in response to this survey are required to manage or evaluate federal and state government programs. If you submit an incomplete form or provide data that are unclear, we may contact you by phone or in person to obtain or clarify the missing information.

The ACS is part of the Decennial Census Program. It is a survey that is sent to a small percentage of our population on a rotating basis. These data previously were collected only in census years in conjunction with the decennial census. Since the ACS is conducted every year, rather than once every ten years, it will provide more current data throughout the decade. The Census Bureau may use the information it collects only for statistical purposes. Title 13 requires the Census Bureau to keep all information about you, and all other respondents, strictly confidential. Any Census Bureau employee who violates these provisions is subject to a fine up to $250,000, a prison sentence up to five years, or both.

Re: Census

I find it interesting that so many people think our government is too intrusive, and that they are doing a lousy job...except when it comes to the Census.

I've seen HUNDREDS of people I know who admit to "violating the law" here and on every forum I visit, especially when it's our government being unconstitutional.

I guess you pro-census guys are against the 2nd amendment as well?

Re: Census

Ours is done. I didn't want to do it, but I did. They didn't get my phone number tho... I don't have a home number, just a cell... We fudged a little on our income, why would they care what I make? So they can tax me more? Hopefully making less than 50K a year doesn't throw up a red flag since our house is worth 250K....lol

No where on the form does it ask for your income. Are you sure you're filling out a Census Form?

I don't remember... the wifey actually did it. We always fudge the figures on what we make... I don't think its anybody business. Even at the boat show this winter we were asked to fill out a form that asked for our income.

Re: Census

Hmm... I've talked to people with some pretty invasive census surveys.
I think I'm answering "two" and putting it in the mailbox.

EVERYONE gets the short form for 2010, no one has the invasive long form. Just some clarification.

Re: Census

I just got mine in the mail yesterday. I know that this has been stated, but I'm confused as to why they need my name and date of birth. There's absolutely no way they're getting my phone number!

Good job slasmith. We did the same. What matter should it make what race we are except to those who would use the information for social engineering.
