Re: Census

It was mentioned to me that it would be interesting if someone "mined" the information from internet sources and see how close it would come to the count.

Re: Census

Dockside chat.......Hmm.....I think this is maybe my first post here....

Census.......

On the first page there's a block for the number of people living at this location....

That's All I gave them. That's all the Constitution indicates is required.

So when I got my form today, I filled it out as requested. I can always change my phone number if I wish. (There is a separate form included that states that the info cannot be shared by the IRS, etc.)

So now ya know. If ya didn't give all the info, expect a visit from a Fed. Dunno if they'll bring a Marshal for the first visit or not. :D http://forums.iboats.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=2538469

They'll probably send some minimum wage temp to ask the questions.

They only need to know the number of people living in the house.

Any other info requested is unconstitutional. If they bring a Federal Marshal.......... Well, according to the 10th amendment, they better have the county Sheriff or a deputy with them.

And they'll break your door down if you don't open it? I'll be sure to have the cameras rolling when that happens.

Re: Census

About a week ago I received a letter in the mail stating that my 2010 census would arrive soon. A day ago, a lady hand delivered the census, and it was not thru the post office. What's up with that? Are they hand delivering the census everywhere?

Mine came in the mail.

Re: Census

I too wrote in "American". That's all they need to know. Maybe it's just paranoia about big government getting bigger. But, seemed to me that the limited questions asked on this one would have no use other than demographic justifications. I do recall when I was a kid my folks complaining about the census asking things like, "how many toilets does your home have?".

Re: Census

Mine came in the mail yesterday ... will go out tomorrow. I will fill in the box with the number living in the household and that is all. They do need to know the number that are living in the house for the number of Congresspersons in our state and to determine the size of the districts. But they do not need to know names, ages and dates of birth, phone numbers, race (would that be NASCAR, Formula 1, Drag, etc?), etc.

Re: Census

It's interesting that so many here see no problem with violating the law as passed by Congress, if it's convenient for them. Obeying the law, only because it's convenient, is certainly exhibit of poor integrity. If that's what grass-roots America is made of, it's shameful, but confirms my suspicions.

I would suggest that a statistician armed with a scientifically reliable sample size and a laptop computer could get at least as accurate a count as the "official" one, and do it faster and for a whole lot less money.

That, of course, is not what the law calls for.

They do national polls, with a plus or minus 2 percent or so accuracy factor, in a matter of hours for a few thousand dollars.

Oh come on, have you ever broken the speed limit?

Do you REALLY think this Congress is doing this for US?!?!?!?! Holy cow man, it has nothing to do with convenience, or integrity.

BoatBuoy: Please read this link. It explains it a whole better than I could.

I just don't feel that government needs to know my race or if I own my home, etc. How many persons live at this address is all they have constitutional authority to ask.

Re: Census

Not sure how it is in the US, but in Canada my experience at census time is that the contrarians and conspiracy theorists who rant about the Government "prying into people's lives and asking all sorts of dad-blamed fool questions that are none of their $%#&&* business" are also the ones that are the first to rail against poor Government planning....not enough schools in the right places....services, roads and the like not installed in the right places and quantities etc.

Personally, I see it as a reasonable exercise and perfectly legitimate planning tool and don't understand the fuss.

Well, until you can tell me how it helps the gov't locate schools in the right places by asking questions about race, then I won't fuss about it.

That is....unless the gov't WANTS to profile on race....

Re: Census

The only authority congress has is to count the people. When they ask ANYTHING else it is congress who is violating the constitution. Not the men standing up for our God given rights.
In such manner as they shall direct by law only gives them leeway on how they may collect the information. It does not give them the ability to ask anything they want.
I really like the write in American comment but I like United States Citizen even better because Mexicans and Canadians are also Americans. However I recognize that the term American has traditionally been used to describe citizens of the USA.

Re: Census

I dont think that standing up for the rights and liberties our forefathers fought and died for is a exhibit of poor integrity! I am very grateful for their sacrifice and they fully understood how important the Constitution and Bill of Rights were to the letter!

Tin foil hat?
