I received my Census in the mail...... upon opening it I was less than impressed with the limited information it asked. Name, race and DOB.......

I recall a census about 20 years ago where there were more questions regarding income and education.

Oh well...... my house has been counted.

Re: Census

yeah the plan to get more response with an easier form may work but, I wonder if the information gained will be "sufficient".

Re: Census

Looks to me like the IRS and the Census folds could work together and get information, without sending out more mail. We got ours yesterday, going out today.

Re: Census

Curious.

Usually the complaints on these things are "Why is it any of their danged business" regarding the number and scope of the questions

Re: Census

I guess I anticipated similar questions from the last time I did this. I even received a letter last week informing me that this Census was coming.

Re: Census

On a side note can I put Human next to race? I find sticking people into categories offensive! My cousins are 1/2 "black and white" Cliffie is very dark and has black on his license, Michelle is very light and is listed as white on her license. What is the real deal here? how do they categorize themselves? I guess I will have to call Cliffie today and find out. We always laugh about this, as it is just sad.

Re: Census

Before this one gets locked for polictical attacks I cant understand the reason for the questions on the census. Why do they require my full legal name? Why do they require my full birthday?. I will give my last name only. I will give the month and year I was born only. I will not tell them if I own my home.Everyone knows the millions and millions and millions of illegal aliens here arent going to fill out any friggin census and that no plans to make them do it are there so the census is a joke anyway. Also my phone is for MY business and I will not give out my phone number either. I guess they will have to come to my door for any questions they have but I will then make then make an appointment to come back later...lol

Yep, I here people saying the same things. From what I understand they send out a more thorough form to some, how they determine that I do not know.

I will tell them how many people and that's it.

Re: Census

The really sad thing is that by the time they figure the 2010 CENSUS 100% the information will be outdated .

Re: Census

I filled mine out and sent it back today. I did not answer any of the questions regarding race of the occupants of my home, it is none of the governments business!! A person is a person in my book regardless of race or color.

You must have got the "detailed census" form before. I had one last census, but only had the basic one this time.

Re: Census

I was wrong earlier. They are sending EVERYONE the short form this time, 10 questions for everyone. In 2000 they sent out short and long forms.

Re: Census

Here's the actual text from the U.S. Constitution, Article 1, Section 2, Paragraph 3.

The actual Enumeration shall be made within three years after the first meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent term of ten years, in such manner as they shall by law direct.
The color and italics are mine, but that's the text. Congress decides what information is needed and passes a law accordingly.

People who fail to properly provide the information requested will most likely be visited by a federal census worker. Happened to me in 2000 and she politely informed me that it WAS the law to give the info... and that there ARE penalties for not complying. Gave her all the info requested... and it was the long form for me then.

So when I got my form today, I filled it out as requested. I can always change my phone number if I wish. (There is a separate form included that states that the info cannot be shared by the IRS, etc.)

So now ya know. If ya didn't give all the info, expect a visit from a Fed. Dunno if they'll bring a Marshal for the first visit or not. :D

That's been my experience as well. And considering the Constitution only requires that everyone be counted every ten years, those are very valid concerns. The pared down Census this year is more than adequate to satisfy the Constitutional requirements, as quoted above.

Re: Census

Not sure how it is in the US, but in Canada my experience at census time is that the contrarians and conspiracy theorists who rant about the Government "prying into people's lives and asking all sorts of dad-blamed fool questions that are none of their $%#&&* business" are also the ones that are the first to rail against poor Government planning....not enough schools in the right places....services, roads and the like not installed in the right places and quantities etc.

Personally, I see it as a reasonable exercise and perfectly legitimate planning tool and don't understand the fuss.

Ummm, those "Feds" are just TEMPORARY workers hired to be census workers.
I don't fear their penalties, and neither will millions of others.
Not to mention the millions upon millions of enemies, errr, I mean illegal aliens.

Do we seriously think our government will get THIS right? Do we REALLY believe that this will help them spend OUR money better????? I think not.

FYI, I ripped my 2000 Census form up and never heard a peep from anyone.

Re: Census

About a week ago I received a letter in the mail stating that my 2010 census would arrive soon. A day ago, a lady hand delivered the census, and it was not thru the post office. What's up with that? Are they hand delivering the census everywhere?
