I have a Carver Montego 2750 and am on second set of engines (Jasper remans). I would like to replace 470's with 4.3's but am having trouble getting info on technicalities of conversion. Mechanic says stringers have to be reworked for mid mount 4.3's. However, this boat model came from factory with 4.3's but I don't know if stringer configuration was different? Most info I have seen suggests repairing the 470's or trading boats. We have had the boat a long time and like the layout. But, we run a lot of hours and long distance on Lake Erie and need reliability which we have none of now. Would appreciate and info on conversion.

The conversion on a nearly 30 year old boat would probably not be cost effective. You could probably upgrade your boat for less. A lot depends on what is wrong with the 470's. Are they worn out (eg. burning oil and low compression) or just running poorly? Rebuilding carburetors, and distributors, and adding electronic ignitions, and components (wires, cap etc) might be a better way to go.
