I am removing the carpet as part of my restoring of a 1986 procraft 1750V. The boat was left in a barn, under hay storage for a few years uncovered, so as you can imagine it is a bit funky.

So here is my dilemma.

I pulled the carpet up, off of fiberglass...and got this

Any thoughts, hints, ideas tips and tricks on how to get the carpet "leftovers" off easily? Besides just picking at it with a screwdriver for 2 weeks? I am damaging the fiberglass with the screwdriver method (shocker) and I think I may actually leave some of the fiberglass uncarpeted if I can manage to not damage it when removing these carpet leftovers.

Yep, I'd go to Lowe's and buy a 4" scraper with replaceable blades. Kinda looks like this...Use some boiling Hot water from a tea kettle on the "LeftOvers", let set for a couple of mins and then start scraping.

Try using a vibrating saw with the smooth blade. Put the blade flat on surface under carpet and work slow as not to hurt the surface. It worked great on my fishing boat.

This is what I would do.. Go to Home Depot and buy a chemical resistant sprayer and stop by any auto supplies store and buy yourself couple of these?

Soak your carpet leftover ? small sections at a time 3 foot * 3 foot for instance - with the sprayer and let it work for few minutes then use a scraper to remove the carpet. The same method can be used to remove the residual glue as well but I found that a steel wool works much better than scraper to remove the glue. Hope this helps

So far I have been using Goo-Gone, and a wooden spoon. Making some progress, but man oh man is this laborious, ugh...

you think that adhesive cleaner would do me better than goo gon?

Will try the boiling water, although I am working in direct sunlight right now on a hot day, so it is already getting some pretty good heat on it...as am I

After a lot of Goo Gone, and a lot of scraping...here is my work accomplished for the day.

I think thats probably good enough to put carpet back over. Anyone recommend any specific carpet adhesives?

Next day off, I tackle the front deck...ugh...

I used the Roberts 6700 adhesive from Home Depot. Cheap and worked very well.
