Foam Floats have been used for Decades in Cars/Trucks, and I have never seen one with a flexing fulcrum like the one you showed. I would raise hell with Sierra, as their supplier is apparently slapping parts together with no regard to Quality Control
It seems that years ago before FI, we had to adjust floats to reduce flooding. We would just bend fulcrum to achieve results. But, I haven't been into a quad-jet for some time.

Sometimes, it was done, to compensate for High/Low Fuel Pressure, in some cases because the Wrong Float was used(There are several Hundred different Floats for the Q-jet alone), other times because of a different Needle and Seat.
Holley had an innovative way to set some floats, an externally adjustable Needle and Seat, in conjunction with a Sight Glass/Level Screw

I remember those. And you are dating yourself. Those external adjustments even worked some of the time.

Love the Holley external needle/float adjustment.

The whole cartridge is $5. Takes 20 seconds to adjust
