I'm going to try an experiment.
Since carburetors are expensive for the 2.3 and it's a gamble on reconditioned ones I'm going to try cleaning the old one.

I've done alot of reading and video watching and have decided to use muratic acid. I've tried soaking and scrubbing using various cleaners but nothing truly gets rid of oxidation to this point. I will completely remove and rubber or similar things before I proceed.
I will update as I progress and have included a before picture.

do not use muratic acid. you will destroy the housing.

at most, oxalic acid. generally shouldnt need more than simple green

How did this motor run for you last season ?------I think you need to look for another carburetor.-----That nearly looks to be beyond further service !

It's the carburetor that was on the boat when I acquired it, and after one look, I purchased a reman carburetor but was still curious if it could be brought back from the dead 😊.
I watched a video of an older gentleman using diluted muratic and rinses not leaving it in more than 10 minutes at a time before rinsing and drying to inspect it.
I think he went through the process twice and eventually used the carburetor.
I'm thankful for @Scott Danforth for his knowledge!

with oxalic acid, you can toss the parts in a tub of it and look at it the next day

I ended up using white vinegar and only let it soak for 15 minutes. I scrubbed with a toothbrush, rinsed thourghly dried with compressed air.
I previously tried Grez-off, letting it soak for days, but it really didn't do what I had hoped. We use it at work as a parts cleaner(environmentally safe).
I'm very happy with the results and will rebuild it..🤞

I used a ultrasonic cleaner and they work great plus you can clean almost anything in them well worth owning one.
But looks like you got carb. pretty clean hope it works out for you.

I agree that those ultrasonic cleaners are great!
All of the orifices are clear, and the pump walls are nice and smooth. If it works I have a good spare, and if not, it was a fun little project. 😉

Well, she's rebuilt, and I'm happy with the results. I'll give it some paint when it warms up.
