Re: Carbon Fiber 3m DiNoc Boat Dash makeover

I have used their product with great results. Not on my boat but on my dash I made on my golf cart.

Re: Carbon Fiber 3m DiNoc Boat Dash makeover

I've been looking at this product (watched tons of videos) and plan to use it on my project boat, both inside and out. They put it on car bodies, so one would expect it to hold up fairly well.

People putting it on car bodies express how important it is to use the primer. I plan on asking 3M if that applies tp FG as well.

Anyway, please keep posting your progress so we can learn from your experience with this product.

CK, I had been surfing ideas too and came across this solution. I will definitely keep a log of the progress. Plan to start it in early May.

Pocket Aces...how is the sheet sticking? any issues with bubbles or lifting? Thanks for posting the pic.

Hey klab, no more posts. I guess its just you and me interested in di-noc.

That's a little scary, but I guess we'll just have to lead the way on this one. Someday, we may be the go to guys on iboats for di-noc. Lol

It went on really easy. My dash was completly flat so that made it easy. You can lift and move it a little once down. Sticks and stays in place great. Been on for over a year now. I used a heat gun on low setting to make smooth rounded corners.

Great to hear. I assume dash was gelcoated FG. Did you do anything to prep the surface? Did you use their primer?

The dash was made of wood. I sparyed it with adhesive promoter then layed down the Carbon fiber 3M.

I used a similer product inside my 2006 mustang, looks amazing. Most of that stuff is only said to last 5ish years outside and ten years inside, I would be cautious about putting alot of it on a white boat seeing how the black attract sun, and if boats get alot of sun and water during the boating season.

I agree outside in the sun will shorten its life. I saw 3M's statement about 5 years outside. That probably doesn't take into account my year around Florida sun. I may use it sparingly on the dash, protected somewhat by T-top that will always be up, but with the knowledge I will have to keep an eye on it, and probably redo it at some point.

My primary use will be inside the salon.

I used the DiNoc to wrap pieces in my VW... It looks awesome. Use a little heat and it will flex and conform to anything.

Re: Carbon Fiber 3m DiNoc Boat Dash makeover

I see what you guys are saying about the outdoor life, but if some guys are using the di-noc to wrap their hoods, spoilers etc, they it must be good for a while in the sun's heat. Using on the boat dash should be ok and I will be keeping the boat in a boat house while not in use, so the only time it sees sun is when I am out on the water. I guess the real questions are will it bubble and how easy is it to take off if it needed to be replaced...does the adhesive make a mess?

The only story I read about bubling was a guy who didn't know 3M recommends using their primer when putting it on metal.

Haven't seen anything about how easy it is to remove.

Yes--there are many options on ebay too. different sizes and prices. Just make sure the ad actually mentions 3M Di-Noc by name.
