Found the elephant: last year one of my customers asks me to get a 97 120 started after it fell off the pontoon.
He neglected to tell me if fell off in salt water and set for over a year and nobody did anything to protect it :(
The carbs, were in really bbaddd shape, right into the dumpster, thank God for Ebay!!
You charge him for your time and dumpster fee?

If it stops raining here today maybe I can put this thing in the water. I will keep y'all updated. Gotta watch out for those elephant's for sure. Lol if it doesn't work then Im definitely gonna order some new carbs. Also gonna try and change prop pitch I believe. Right now it's got a 15 on it. Any advice on what pitch would be best. It's a 1991 Bayliner Capri 17'

Blows my mind on how a outboard can run so different out of water than when in water. Even with foot down in a drum

Well just to keep everyone updated took the boat out today and it ran great plenty of power runs really smooth no gas leaks. Now my question is when at top speed Wich is 30 mph the bow is bouncing up and down. Not a smooth ride. It jumps right on plane fast but once up to speed I have to let off of it to keep it from bouncing. Any advice on this. That's with engine all the way down if I trim up it's way worse

You have to experiment with the trim/tilt; find the sweet spot your whole configuration works best. There are several factors which may also contribute to the bounce such as chop, wind, weight/gear distribution, etc. your boat may be water logged from previous water intrusion and lack of proper drainage, may have water saturated transom ?? Don’t know what you got so I’m shootn things out there. One thing though; try not to run these old engines at wot for too long as that surely becomes its death sentence-my two cents. I’m sure the experts here will give you theirs-

The boat had a 50hp stock it didn't do it. I put the 85;on it and now it is. Thinking maybe weight related. Transom is good. All floors I put in myself so there good also.

Stringers also good. Shows 50hp is max HP for this boat but it just wasn't enough lol. Think maybe a hydrofoil will help it seems to be a touchy subject lol

I've played with tilt and trim and it only get worse. It's good at 20 to 25mph bit any faster and the hopping begins. The height of the engine is the same as the 50 Wich was factory on that boat

Wait for the experts to chime in but in my mind you might’ve over powered which is in my opinion not that bad but there might be a weight difference too…

Well with a hint of pre mix in the carbs and she fired up and ran great. Thanking maybe choke issues. Although it is functioning I don't think they are closing all the way even manually.

What ever your issue it’s fuel delivery related in my opinion.

Pics of the motor and the transom and the bottom of the boat and the cavitation plate.
You might need trim tabs or the hydrofoil?
