Car guy needs help with boat wiring

I bought myself an old boat with an '82 90hp Evinrude that needs a little work, got it running, although it seems to be a little rich right now I need to rebuild the carbs.

My question deals with the wiring of the kill switch. The little rubber boot thing that holds the kill button in is worn and loose and keeps popping off at the worst time. I'm guessing I can't buy a replacement these days which leads to my question.

The kill switch is on the speed control, is that native to the boat or would it have been supplied by Evinrude? If its the latter I'm guessing I may be able to buy a replacement.

If not is there anything I should be aware of if wiring in a new switch.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

There is a new style clip and lanyard.

The rubber cap on my 87 50HP did that to me once too often.

Got the new style that clips over the button to hold it down. Saved the rubber cap for a spare.

Trouble is, I don't know what I did with it.
