Can't download Adobe Reader?

I had Adobe Reader 9. I was having trouble with an Avery business card program that would transfer the finished work to a .pdf for printing. But when done, the display lacked some of the attributes that were set in the Avery program.

I called Avery and they had me try it in an Internet Exlorer browser instead of Firefox. Same results. Then they told me to uninstall Adobe reader 9 and install the latest version of XI. This I did except when I went to install Ver. XI, the installation would "fail to initialize".

I tried to install both thru IE and FF. Same difference. I check trouble shooting and they said to make sure JavaScript was enabled. This I did in IE. It was already enabled. I checked in FF and where there should have been a check box for JavaScript, none existed.

I am stumped. I need Adobe Reader. Ver 9 had worked well enough for me when reading attachemts, etc, but now I have uninstalled it and have nothing.

Any ideas?

Re: Can't download Adobe Reader?

Go here to see if you can download version 9, but will probably be version 9.5

Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions

Alldodge, that is what I had before I uninstalled it. It was actually ver 9.5.2. I was finally able to print my Avery Business card PDF on my other extremely balky computer (due for an OS reload). The card image transferred properly from the Avery Program to the Adobe program.

Just seeing your note, here, I went and checked the ver of Adobe on that computer and it was only ver. 7. But it still did the job.

I will try reloading 9.5 on the computer in question.

I am unable to find ver 7 so probably have to go to a higher version. I have found that it usually takes full adobe to print pdf but have not used the Avery your mentioning. I have avery business card program but it is loaded on a computer with full acrobat version so if it is there I have not used it.

Re: Can't download Adobe Reader?

Thanks sangerwalker, I downloaded and installed ver 7.1 on the computer that had Ver 9. That is the same PC that would not initialize an installation for Ver 11. It is also the same computer that would not properly convert an Avery file to a correct pdf file. under Ver 9.

It was my other PC that had Ver 7 on it that properly converted that Avery file to a correct pdf.

After installing Ver 7, on the computer in question, I tried to print the Avery construction file via the pdf. It had the exact same problem as the Ver 9 had.

This was for a simple text business card. I selected the font and font sizes for 5 lines. I then applied bold and italics. When I hit print and it opened up in Adobe Reader, the 5 lines of text no longer had the bold and italics.

Bottom line, everything worked correctly on one PC, with Ver 7 and not on the other with Ver 7 or 9. Plus, again, on the other, it would not let me install Ver 11. Both of these PC's had Windows XP

To further complicate things, I tried it on my Win 7 Laptop. It had Adobe Reader Ver 10. It also would not properly convert the text from the Avery program to the print mode .pdf.

Re: Can't download Adobe Reader?

Hey Booyal wonder if we are going about it the wrong way. As mentioned before, I've never had an Adobe printer setup without Acrobat or another program which had a version of Adobe printer that came with it. Adobe reader by it self will not convert another file to an Adobe file to print. Instead of trying to get Adobe to print Avery correctly what about downloading the new Avery printer. If Avery has the Adobe printer as part of it's software then it should work by re-installing or using the latest version.

Re: Can't download Adobe Reader?

Your link is of the online avery program I used AllDodge. I just think it is curious and frustrating that one out of three of my computers (two different OS's) will not do it correctly and at least one of those XP computers will not do an install of the latest Adobe Reader XI.

Also, I might not be stating 'Avery' file correctly. After the creation and review of the business card, in Avery, you hit the 'print' button and the creation opens up in .pdf window. I think the .pdf is being created in Avery Online. It's just like what happens, when you open a .pdf file in an email attachment. Then you print it from the .pdf page. Interesting though, that when the project appears on the .pdf page, there is a line at the top of the screen that says 'this .pdf may not print correctly'. Then it gives you the option to choose another program but there on none.

Although I got my project printed from my other XP computer, I will call Avery Tech back and explain all this to them.

Re: Can't download Adobe Reader?

On the original computer that had AR ver 9, the only programs loaded on it are Word Perfect and Paint.net. On the XP computer, with AR ver 7, that the print off worked with all its attributes, I have MS Word, Corel Photo 7 and MS Paint. On the Win 7 laptop that the print off lost it's bold an italics properties, I have no word or photo/art programs.

I thought that the online Avery program was supposed to pretty much be a total package without the need of these other programs, as there is nothing you need to download to use it. I thought everything was done in the cloud and can see no linkage to other programs as you construct your card and try to print it.

Re: Can't download Adobe Reader?

Upon digging into Avery it appears adobe flash player 10 is required. There could be an issue with Windows 7 and if so they sent me to this link
http://www.avery.com/vgnfiles/OP/en...cfiles/DesignPro for PC Help for Windows7.pdf

There is software that goes with MS office but I'm sticking with your Win 7 laptop for now.

Was this the same PC which had the previous issue that was fixed by the local guy? If so what do you know what he had to do to get it going again

It was on the Win 7 laptop that had ver X and the transfer of the bold and italics did not work on that laptop.

My initial problem and question was not on the computer that was (not) fixed by the local guy. I am still having gross balkiness with that computer and it is slated for an OS reload. Ironically, it was this computer that the transfer of attributes did work on, It was also the one that had the oldest ver of Adobe Reader (7).

Re: Can't download Adobe Reader?

Don't know how I'd check that. It does not show up as a program that I can open and check 'about'.

Go to Control Panel the select uninstall programs. The list that shows up is in alphabetical order and Adobe should be near the top

AllDodge, I was speaking of finding the version of flash player.

Didn't realize that flash player was an Adobe program. It is ver 11 plugin.
