Respectfully, but few religions are based on the G.N.P.. The case for god vs religion here seems one of semantics.

The bloodiest and most heinous battles are still found in the Crusades.
just one site concerning the Crusades

Re: Canada and Gun Control

bobber head, the Crusades were the deeds of man in the name of religion. They were certainly not the deeds of God.

Re: Canada and Gun Control

Okay boys here we go with side a not reading side b with an open mind. What Moose said was true more people are killed in the name of god whatever god that happened to be than any other reason. Note I did not screw up not capitalizing god because we are not talking about God (name) but we are talking about god (concept) we might as well use golden calf in the way Moose means it. Whatever your name for it more people have been killed because of the concept of god than any other reason. No one said God did the killing because for the most part all organized religions be they living or dead agree that whichever god you say your prayers to is usually merciful and kind. What was said is more people have died in the name of god than any other thing.
Now if you want to take a few cases where it can actually and truly be said that God (the name) rather than god the concept can be named for death on a grand scale there are some. Way back when God decided man needed a killing and he decided to kill everyone and everything on the face of the planet and did it too with only a few exceptions being saved. No can't be you say not God. Yep God all except Noah and his family as well as a pair of every animal were killed by a flood brought on and created by God just for this function. Need another the old testament is full of them but her is the second best known. Moses was having a little problem with some Egyptions a while back so God deciided to step in and kill all the firstborn except those who believed in him enough to paint a symbol in blood on thier door. HMMM God does not kill indeed.
Okay lets assume you agree with the fact that God kills or even if you don't here is a little more info about the whole name of god and death thing. How many Jews and Christians ended up dead because they believed in God? More that I can count many of them in violent and bloody arenas. Need more look at the Crusades where in the name of god it was decided to take back the holy lands for god. Many many men died trying to do this all in the name of god. Of course it was not the will of God but they sure did it in his name. How many pilgrems were shipped off to die either onboard ship or in the new world because they did not believe in god exactly like the ones in charge did? How many innocent people burned in Salem because of the will of god? There are many many examples of people killing in the name of god. Of course none are the will of God because if you look at what I said in the second paragraph he would not need the help to kill he already is an expert.
Ending this in saying yes I am a christian yes I believe Jesus saves but I also believe God kills when it suits him. Of course my views on God and his relationship with his creation are so diffrent than most christians I am not sure I would have survived Salem or any of a number of cleansings in gods name.

What???

Bible control?? What about Talmud control, etc.??

Well, yes. More people and cultures have been eliminated in the name of religion than of civilization. So what? Gonna outlaw religion? Good luck.

Hooty: re your "rules for. . . " post. You crack me up! :D :D BTW, don't forget who has the BIGGEST guns in the world. I had an aquaintance who used to goof off by sleeping in the bore of a BB main battery rifle.

EDIT: I gave Moose credit for Hooty's rules. I don't know whether to apologize to Moose or Hooty. ;)

Re: Canada and gun control:
Canada is one of our three best friends in the world and one of our closest neighbors. Where does it say we have to agree on everything?

I am not willing to lose any of my Canuck friends over such an issue.

I like Hooty's rules....

I'm not going to jump in this as I can not type as fast as I think so would only screw that up to.I keep hearing about losing freinds in these posts, To me the true mark of a freind is to be able to say how you feel. If it upsets you and you go away and never come back you were not my friend in the first place. If it upsets you and you tell me and you stay then you are my friend as how will I know what upsets you unless you tell me so we can meet in the middle.

JB, I will say you had me scratching my head a bit before the edit :)

I'm guilty for changing the direction of this thread in a big way... sorry, wasn't intended. I'm out.

Hey Moose,

I'm as guilty, as you are, for changing the thread.

It reminds me of one thing my mother told me. Obviously, I didn't listen.

She said, "never talk about, politics, religion, or finances", among friends. She is a VERY smart lady.

Shame on me.

Re: Canada and Gun Control

Hey. Is it okay to put this thread back on topic?

From todays Globe and Mail (mostly about Government mis-spending).

• Parliament kept in the dark about astronomical cost overruns in gun control registry that will cost taxpayers $1-billion by 2004.

This was a plan sold to Canadians as an eighty five million dollar project. It is not done yet and has exceeded 1 BILLION. I know it's only Cdn money, but still. I think the US gun control opponents can point to Canada's experience for many years to come as to what happens when you try to implement stupid gun control laws.
