Yeah...think I agree with you. Still, why would you use this EBAY stuff at $84.gal when you can use USCOMPOSITE for about $65/gal. Or did I miss something?

I just ordered the 2 gallon package and it came to about $71.50/gal w/shipping. More than Max Bond? Dunno. I could only find MB on EBAY for over $70 per half gal.

??? The link I gave a few posts back has the MB at $42/gal plus shipping.

Not being a Max Bond leghumper here or anything, just saying: I used it, liked it, and I originally chose it because it was inexpensive, plus had low-cost and fast shipping to me since it comes out of Los Angeles (I'm in San Diego).

Looks to me like 1/2 GALLON OF RESIN and 1/2 GALLON OF CURING AGENT a MAX BOND LOW VISCOSITY 1 GALLON KIT so that would be $84 a gallon. These guys are sneaky, so be careful when ordering online. The bottles LOOK like one gallon, but I think they are only 1/2 gallon.

Yes those are 1/2 gallon bottles.

1/2 gallon resin + 1/2 gallon curing agent = 1 gallon epoxy. For $42 plus shipping. Dunno where you get $84/gallon from.

All 1 gallon 1:1 epoxy kits will be 1/2 gallon of each. If you had 1 gallon of each part, that would be a 2 gallon kit.

Re: Can you mix brands of epoxy

most anything with a chemical makeup can be tailored to specific uses and may not be compatible with compounds in other products. The key most times is to make sure that the surface that you are bonding to has FULLY cured. If it is still leaching off gasses from the curing process, you take chances with those gasses causing problems with the next layer applied.

Sometimes seemingly compatible products just aren't. We are dealing with this on one of our jobs currently. It's just been a mess, mostly because the people involved didn't do enough research to make sure the two components we were using were compatible...namely a latex based paint to make a floor white, with a water based finish over the top of it...the waterbased finish wouldn't adhere to the latex based paint.

That being said, two products designed for the same application are going to have a much higher probability of being compatible, just for the sake of wanting the product to be used for said applications. Epoxy resin for fiberglass layup should be compatible with epoxy from a different manufacturer for the same purpose. However, as said, the best bet is to ask the manufacturer if they know of any specific problems you might or might not encounter using their product in the manner you've designed. They are the experts ( or should be ) in regards to this.
