Can i make a teleflex 479 cable fit?

Hi All,

i have a 1977 70hp johnson outboard and i need a new gear control cable. problem is here in the UK i can't get hold of a cable to fit. the teleflex 479 type cable fit 1979 onwards and apparently i need a 400 type cable. the difference as far as i can see is at the control box end. so my question is..... can i make the 479 cable fit my control box by adapting it in any way?

I have jury rigged my share of things and have found few can't be done if you put your mind to it.

If the control box end fits then I really don't see why not, a cable is a cable, just remember if your fix doesn't hold you are stranded so be fairly sure it is going to work and hold up.

they are not compatible, but you can order 400 cables from iboats.com, they do ship international. here is the link
