I have a 1976 evinrude 55 horse. I initially thought that i had a coil problem but the local parts place tested it and it was fine. So, i was told that i needed to clean the points. My I have been looking all around on the forums and have found information on cleaning the points. i understand the process of doing this but i have a few questions.
the faq forum says that i need to tourqe the nut on the top of the flyweel. I know how to do it but the nut is 1 3/8 so the only sockets i can find are 3/4 in drive and i only have a 3/8 tourqe wrench??? Im assuming getting a 3/4 in drive tourqe wrench is expensive.
Im hoping that this is something i can do myself.
my boat ran perfect last year and this year when i hit the gas it it will sound like its going to take off normal then bog down and only go like 5 miles an hour.
I have compression checked the motor 145 each cylinder the carbs are clean and coils are good. i was told at my local repair shop that the points are dirty the explanation in FAQ is a littke different than my motor.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!
