Yup... 35 years and counting! Used to go up for 2 mths straight! Sounds good.... would be interesting to boat with other iboaters!

I've been in contact with a couple of other iboaters on here that are local that sound interested too. We'll have to plan a Parry Sound iboaters meetup for next July or August.

We venture near Parry Sound often enough. We like to go to Port Rawson. We also make a stopover at Big Sound when making our way up to the Bustards and Killarney area.

Killarney is a fantastic area... cold water... but crystal clear.

Hi folks. Jim, I've added/changed the info that I had listed for you. Juniper is gone, Falcon swoops in. I'm not sure what length the Falcon is, so I've listed it as 14'.

Ah, Killarney. In the mid seventies, before children, the admiral and I made a 10 day trip in our 17' Winner Eliminator with 80 HP Merc O/B. We put in just south of Killarney and travelled along the shore to Manitoulin and the North Channel. We would have kept going, but were intimidated by the really big waters and the lack of safe anchorage the further we went. My old 1964 Chevy SS 2-door hardtop rolled over the 100,000 mile mark on the road into Killarney. We stopped and took pictures of the car and boat with the odometer at 100000.0. I'm gonna hafta get those pictures out. They're on Kodachrome slides, so it's a hassle. One day I'll sit down with the scanner and put a slideshow together. Several years ago, I located the picture below that I have scanned. I've posted it elsewhare on Iboats before, but since we're talking about my favourite place, I'll post my favourite picture again. The small islands in the distance are called the "Pigs and Sows" I think. I'd love to return. That's the admiral swimming above her shadow in those clear waters. - Grandad

Last year in July the water temps in the Killarney area were in the 70's. Nothing wrong with that!! In Port Rawson at the same time the temps were in the mid 80's! It was like swimming in the bath tub.

Anyone planning on attending the Toronto Boat Show this January?

We will probably attend on the first weekend.

I'd like to go. There's a few odds and ends I need and they usually have some good deals. But I haven't cleared it with the wife yet!
BTW I just realized that I must be getting old. It's new years and the only thing I'm thinking of is, "it's one day closer to spring".

Happy New Year!

Craig, glad to hear that you're down for a Parry Sound trip too.

I'm in Ohio for the winter so I won't be heading to the Toronto boat show, but I'm wondering if any of you ever go to the big ACBS July meet in Gravenhurst. I missed it last year, but that's a show that I try to get to usually.

Re: Calling All Ontario Members

I hope I have this figured out. Just joined. I live on the Trent but keep my boat at a marina in Hastings. I'm bored to tears with this bitter cold crappy weather, so I stumbled across this forum and joined. I'm not new to forums, in fact I moderate on a "brand specific" boating forum and an Ontario fishing forum. The pages and layout are new to me here so bear with me while I learn the ropes here.

I guess my handle says what boat I have. She's powered with twin HO 5.0 EFI Volvo Pentas with SX drives. I also have a 12 foot tin can with a 6 Suzuki 4 stroke at the house. Oh, and an 11 foot Zodiac that stays in the basement with a slow leak that I'm too lazy to fix.

As for the boat show, I aint going. I've found it very disappointing the last few years.

Well, that's my intro post. I hope it prints.

Welcome aboard 278 Vista. We're up stream from you in the Kawartha Lakes. Made it down as far a Peterborough last sumer but after a night at Peterborough marina and a show in the park, we headed back toward home.
I'm sure Grandad will be along soon to add you to the list. In the mean time, try to enjoy this winter weather. Life is too short to waste
half of it.

Hi Vista. Welcome to Iboats. What bodies of water do you boat in (other than your leaky basement)? I'd call a builder and get that fixed ASAP. :D I'll add your info to the Ontario members list and post shortly. - Grandad

Re: Calling All Ontario Members

Thanks guys. The Zodiac has the leak, not the basement. :)

I used to keep the boat at Beaverton Yacht Club on Simcoe. I moved from Whitby to the Campbellford area almost a year ago, so Hastings is her home port now at the east end of Rice Lake. I hardly used the boat last summer cuz I've been having too much fun at home. I'll try to figure out how to post a pic. It might take a while being Sunday morning. :joyous:

Our cottage is just south of Gravenhurst on Sparrow Lake but somehow always miss that show.
Really should make an effort to attend it looks like a lot of fun.

The Gravenhurst show is lots of fun. If you get a chance, you really should try to check it out. In 2010, they had a two day show. The first day was the regular classic woodies show and the second day was devoted more to classic fiberglass. I went on the classic glass day and it was awesome. Going to that show and seeing all of those cool classic fiberglass boats played a big part in my deciding to get our old 1961 MFG repaired and back in the water. Here's some pics that I took at the 2010 show: 2010 Gravenhurst Antique and Classic Boat Show - a set on Flickr

As far as I know, they haven't done another two day show with a day for classic fiberglass again, but hopefully they will again sometime. Either way, the boats at the show are gorgeous though. Here's some pics from the more woodie oriented one day show in 2012. 2012 Gravenhurst Classic Boat Show - July 7, 2012 - a set on Flickr

Craig, have you ever brought your Chieftain up to Parry Sound before? On my way to the mainland to get groceries in town one time last summer, I saw a similar vintage bare aluminum Starcraft coming out of the public dock in Nobel/McDougall. I wondered if it was you or if your boat's twin is enjoying Georgian Bay.
