Buying an alignment tool?

Is there anything special I need to know about buying an alignment tool?
How specific to an engine are they?
I see these on eBay and they claim the tool works with a variety of engines, is that correct?
Or should I buy from a specific seller?

I have a 1994 Volvo Penta 5.0 Fi PMDA V8 w/an SX-X out drive.
I am getting close to re-installing the engine and need to do the alignment.
