Re: But am I wrong?

You are NOT wrong. DirecTV messed up and they need to fix it. When the rep calls back, tell hime he can either send pre-paid shipping labels and arrange for pickup, or that you will simply leave them on the front porch and they can either get them or not. If they're still there in 5 days, they go in the trash.

I'd then follow that up with an e-mail to their customer service stating the same. If you have the option, send it 'return receipt', so that you get a notification when it's opened at the other end. Keep the e-mail and receipt.

A customer is not responsible for items they didn't order. You are only required to notify the seller of the error, and make a 'reasonable effort' to make those items available for pickup.

Not trying to be mean but talking with someone that was obviously on this side of the pond that wasn't talking from a canned script made a HUGE difference.

In my experience, I fully agree with that statement....

Re: But am I wrong?

There have been times I have had to ask for someone who speaks English as a native language. It does make a difference ...

I ask as soon as I get a customer service rep on the phone, I refuse to try and work anything out with someone who does not speak the native language of the country I am trying to do business in.

U In the end, "We apologize sir, we sent the wrong receiver for your dish and LBN. You need a special B-Band convertor so I'll send it off right away".

Of course. DUH! Only one package this time I hope.

In the end, "We apologize sir, we sent the wrong receiver for your dish and LBN. You need a special B-Band convertor so I'll send it off right away". Three days go by and I got it in the mail today. Hooked it up and ta da, I finally have it all working.
I thought they always sent these with the receivers. I have 8 of of these laying around because i have the newer LNBs that don't need them. Typically, in the receiver set up where you select your antenna type, it tells you to install these or not.

I do believe you were talking to a call center located IN India. Many companies sub out to cheap labor located in Foreign countries. Your Hospital X rays me be checked out by Doctor located in India. So it is just not another language, as it is another Country. These Indians go to classes to learn American slang. When things get more complicated then you are switched back to the American offices. DirecTV owns Dish network btw I have always had good luck with DTV customer service. Looks to me like one way or another they will make things right for their customers as you found out. Sometimes you just got to get past the Indians when things go wrong lol Ya the old boxes are not up to snuff with the new fangle boxes, so they don't won't those back. The new boxes have that blinding blue light. You have to ship the new boxes back if they go bad or you cancel service.
I may cancel soon if they keep going up in price. I really don't like the fact that they are giving $10 off for referrals and at the same time jacking the price up on regulars to pay for it :( Just NOTHING to watch anyway many days. A lot of reality junk. A lot of repeats

DirecTV and Dish are completely separate companies.

If you call Directv during normal business hours, you are more than likely going to be talking to a US based call center.

You are right. I looked it up. They tried to merge in 2002 but it failed. I didn't know the attempt failed:

Rumor on the Street: Dish & DirecTV Possible Merger | Kapitall Wire

"There is a buzz around Dish Network Corp. (DISH) and DirecTV (DTV) as rumors float about a possible merger. Although a similar deal failed in 2002, the telecommunication, cable, and satellite-TV industries landscape has substantially changed over the past 10 years."

Dealing with any type of cable or dish company is a test. These companies for the most part are known for having some of the worst customer service, and satisfaction. The local one here in Michigan which has a monopoly is about as bad as they get, and everyone knows this sad fact. The reputation they have is so bad, they are offering all kinds of coupons to keep customers from leaving in swarms. Prices vary based on what cable company choices you have, and the same service cost's much different prices depending on where you live.
Who would have thought ten years ago we would be paying over $100 a month to watch TV and use the internet?

The mere idea that you should somehow be responsible for the extra products should speak volumes of the company you are dealing with. Seems they forgot who's paying the bill and who the customer is. Not uncommon in today's goofy world.

Re: But am I wrong?

At least the ineptitude is similar to my wife's cell phone story. She ran her brand new Droid phone throught wash last month so we made an insurance claim (glad we bought the insurance). It took three tries to get the correct phone to us. They kept just sending random cell phones. The upshot is each comes with a return lablel but I hate spending the time on the phone trying to explain over and over.
