Have the top end removed and the heads at a machine shop.
Now thinking of pulling the rest and building a stroker..........on my bucket list.
If the cyinlders are OK and can just use a Hone, can I do the clearancing?

Wanna do it on a low budget!!

Why not ask Kevin at SK I'm sure he'll be happy to give you his take on it!

Die grinder and 20 minutes to clearance the block. I would spring $100 for bore and hone

Lou, I'm still waiting for my heads.
How long did he take to finish your heads?

A scat 9000 series rotating assembly would be what i recommend for a budget stroker

. I agree on the scat assemblies. I've used several & they are great to work with & their stuff is tuff as nails.

There are so many assemblies to choose from....
My engine is already bored 0.030 over and only has 600hrs on it..........no rig at top of cylinder bore.
I would want the pistons that would give me a good quench and rods I can install myself.
Balancing concerns/confuses me.........I assume I can get an assembly that is already balanced.

What about SkipWhite I see on ebay? Is his stuff any good?

600 hours is a lot of hours to think you can get by without a rebore and hone. at a minimum you need to rehone to get the new rings to seat. I would suggest using a bore gauge and measuring each bore in 3 places, both in-line with crank CL and 90 degrees to crank. I bet you find some taper

get a SCAT system. Summit Racing vs Ebay every day of the week. of the chinese sourced speed parts, SCAT has the best tolerances. Eagle is a crapshoot

yes, you can get a complete balanced system, the stroker will be externally balanced unless you pay lots more for an internally balanced kit.

they all come with floating pins so you can swear at the spiral locks

Sounds like a good plan. I might also want to do a leak down test as well to make sure that the piston rings still hold compression well. I did not do this on my engine yet but I want to before I have to winterize it. My regular compression test results were very good, like a new engine.
How did SK wind up working out for you? Was the work good/reasonable price wise? I was happy with the price I got my re-man heads for, a lot less than you'd pay for either Mercruiser or Sierra re-man heads, more than some of the stuff floating around on the 'net or ebay, but at least have a one year warrantee. $275 each for reman marine 4.3 heads. Plus Kevin gave me a lot of good advise on prepping parts, cleaning, etc. I picked up a Marine 4.3 non vortec intake manifold as a spare because sometimes they rot out right under the thermostat. My original one is still good but these are hard to find, so for $150 I got a nice one off of ebay. The Barr marine exhaust system I installed fit perfect, the only extra expense was the 90* elbow adaptors I had to get from Volvo. Pricey but everything lines up perfect like it was built that way. I like the Barr stuff because it is cast in USA. Quality appears very good.

Ayuh,.... The way ya get optimum quench is to go D-dish pistons, 'n deck the block,....

Talk to yer Machinist that did yer heads,....
Maybe he'll deck yer block, 'n plate-hone yer cylinders for ya,...
Ask 'im 'bout pressin' the new pistons on, after he resizes yer rods,....

He quoted me ~$2K to prep the block and a Stroker Rotating assembly.....
Don't really wanna spend that much $$$
Already spent ~$1100 on the heads/manifolds/risers......

In this case just bore and deck the block, or just bore. You can reuse what you have

My link to skipwhite isn't allowed?

It is allowed, its just skipwhite doesn't have their items on direct links, my guess is there is a java scrip or something else that is used so you can find the items, but what is seen/copied in the http is not a direct link

Nice!
383 cubes will really move that boat nicely!
How much power do you figure it will add?
