By the looks of your pic, you need to replace all of the wood in your boat... it has seen much better days.

The motor pad on the outside of your transom is an easy fix. Just cut a new one out of exterior grade plywood and reinstall it with stainless steel bolts, washers, and nyloc nuts. Use 3M 5200 to seal the bolt holes before installing the bolts.

I dont think it would be difficult but dont really know whats required. just a new piece of ply and some 5200? or would the whole transom need replaced? i can pick it up cheap and thinking about fixing it up and selling it

You would probably need to replace all of the wood on that boat, you will need to seal the wood with exterior grade Spar Urethane before reinstalling it. It is an easy job and shouldn't cost over 100 bucks or so for the new plywood and sealer.

Ayuh,.... Abit of Dumpster divin' for the wood, 'n a $20. gallon of Rustoleum industrial enamel would do a 'ell of a job of refreshenin' that hull, for Resale...

Is the exterior motor pad the only wood in the transom???

I've seen a bunch of older small boats that only use a small motor pad in the transom,....

How big is your outboard??,..

I'm guessing no more than 15 horse?

appears to be the only wood. come with an older 6hp, rated for 10hp.

appears to be the only wood....

It looks like the piece of 2X6 standing up besides the motor pad, has the OB's clamp washer dents in it.... So it was on the inside face of the transom...

That piece of lumber looks to be in really good shape compared to some of the other lumber in the boat. Makes me think it 'might' be pressure treated, if so DON'T put pt wood back in your boat (it's aluminum right?)....

The 2X6 also doesn't appear to have any thru bolts thru it...

I don't know what boat it is, or if it came w/ wood on both sides of the transom, but I'd probably put both back. Esp if you ever intend to step up to the 10hp rating...

Don't use pressure treated wood, use well sealed & UV protected exterior plywood for each, and any holes thru the aluminum skin for bolts should be well sealed w/ 4200/5200..

12-14footer? It seems to be sitting up off the grass, but not quite high enough for a trailer. It'll be easier to sell w/ a trailer if you can dig one up that fits the shallow semi-vee...

That 2x6 looks like it is way too long to have been used across the transom,.....

Re: broken transom mount

Maybe the 2x6 was mounted across the gunnels of the boat as a down rigger mounting board????

I see matched holes drilled in the ends on the 2x6,....

Re: broken transom mount

It does, but it's been used for the clamps. In the pix I posted on my monitor, the 2X6 is about 4" long, the transom is 4.25"+ wide...
:yo:
EDIT: Teamster, You may also be right, there are clamp style downrigger & rod tube setups...............

It's a very common and quick way to mount down-riggers on a small boat,....

Yep..

But I'm still leaning towards inner transom woo. The angle cuts on the end of the 2X6 look more like hull taper rather then following the handled end caps that they'd have to be screwed down to...

Either way, it won't matter until Spare drags it home and it will need to be replaced.
