Missing about 2/3rds of a tooth on a Johnson 35p pinion gear. I know I should replace it, but at about 200 bucks on a motor that is 37 years old makes me wonder if it will work for awhile longer. I did not notice anything while running that wold indicate a broken gear. I pulled lower unit apart to replace/repair slipping clutch dog.

You could break the rest off under stress and that could grind through the gears and stuff it all up.
You could try on ebay or something or a wrecker for something not new but still useable and a lot cheaper

That broken tooth is a disaster about to happen. It certainly will break off and wipe out everything.

If you don't replace it you might be buying a whole new lower unit.

What's the model number of that engine?. I'll check my remaining stock.
