Here is a link on how to break-in a engine from a reman/repair company. There are various ways others do it, this is best way for a customer to do break-in. I myself use a modified factory break-in that they used for the Pro boats, takes about a 1 hour to do and a whole lot of lake..
Depends on the assembly lube/grease you used. I use a grease(Pro-Marine) that melts at about 140? and is burnt up in combustion process. The way the Pro/Trail boats was broken in was in gear for 5 mins, and 5 mins at every 500 rpm increase. Takes a lot of lake to run the 3000rpm thru 6000 range!!!
