Re: Bottom Pop-ups - What's Up?

The ads are slowing down my Safari. I have almost just stopped coming to the site because it is so frustrating to use.

Since the Firefox update on the 4th - No bottom pop-ups. Knocking wood. :noidea:

I never see any ads unless I shut the ad blocker off, and that doesn't always let me see what you guys see.

How sure are you your computer doesn't have some program you installed that isn't inviting popups? I've accedentally forgot to uncheck a box when installing something that caused all sorts of problems.

Why must someone always kill the golden goose? OK, I'll go ad stuff to block these annoying pop-ups and pop-unders, but iboats, you are making a huge mistake. I used to order from you by default. Fire your web consultants.

No problem with ads, it's just pop-ups improperly placed. Also...pop-ups are fine as long as they pop up when I want them too and not IN MY FACE. In my face is the fastest way to get me to say no. And Toneees don't let " it really doesn't matter if the 27 people who read this thread get an ad blocker" fool you. 90% of the public never complain, they just go somewhere else. Look at the views of the post.

Anyhow blockers work so I am happy

I think iboats is making a huge mistake too. The ads slow down my browser bad, and unless someone told me about that blocker thing, I would not come here as much.

I agree and understand with what you both are saying. I've always been against having the ads because of what they do to traffic. The only way to get rid of the ads is to find an alternate source of income.

I know the other day I said they stopped. Well I'm wrong. I'm just living with them but it's still the inconsistency of the darn things. I go a couple of days and all off a sudden they're back on every page. and then gone again. Yesterday was free of them and then this afternoon back again. I think they are gone right now. Confusing as all get out.

Do as some other sites do.. a $10 or $15 donation membership with perks, :)

No popups or ads and a photo album and a cool looking iboats support badge under our name.

Guys - Stop knocking the support staff. They are doing all they can to fix this.

I started the thread, can I request it be closed?

Re: Bottom Pop-ups - What's Up?

Looks like an issue with how Firefox handles javascript. Turning off javascript in Firefox stopped the aggressive nature of this beast, but obviously javascript is necessary for full functionality of most of these types of sites. I installed Chrome for Ubuntu and it is successful at blocking this nonsense. Firefox cannot block this type of popup for some reason. After the website support staff and admins get this little tidbit of input, you can delete my post as you have the last two on this subject. Doesn't bother me a bit but it's pretty irritating when it gets this aggressive and doesn't stop.

that bottom pop up has to go, or if you click it once its gone. imo.. the ads at the top are perfectly ok and dont take any enjoyment from the iboats site......but those relentless bottom pop ups are just over the top.

Re: Bottom Pop-ups - What's Up?

Works ^^^ GREAT!

Never had 1 pop-up, in FireFox... I even added the blocker for ads on the right of the screen on my hotmail/outlook emails. Works great too!

I detest IE 10 et al...... But AdBlock works for it too.

There are lots of good add-ons that help improve both speed, user interface, and internet security, for FF and IE. Can't speak to Google Chrome or Apple products, I don't use them.
