Bottom paint around transom assembly

I'm replacing this transom assemply. I reading the bottom paint should not be touching assembly as it transfers electric to the outdrive eating it. Whats the best way to remove one inch of paint around the assembly and have it look clean not all uneven. Hearing evertything from soda blasting to oven cleaner. Is it really nessesary if i trailer and sit on a sandbar. Never tie up at a marina but its possible for a day trip in the future

Yikes! That whole assembly looks like it needs attention. You can tape off the 1” area and sand lightly to remove the old paint, just be careful. When you get down to the original gel, stop and buff off the remaining paint.

If you want to paint that area just use the same safe for Alu paint you use on the outdrive…just use an alu safe paint stripper…be careful sanding any bottom paint they are all toxic to an extent!

that transom assembly already has an epoxy patch on it. I highly recommend replacing the whole transom assembly.
